Emelié Sterner & Sebastian Rudolph Jensen: Babies
2018, kesto 03:10

Babies   contains   a   wrestle   that   takes   place   in   the   living   room.   Physically   investigating   a   close relationship   between   two   people.   Through an act of violence and/or in a non-formal wrestling, we have been working around the complexity of close relationships. Where the access to each other’ ”fully me” can bring us to places that are warm, to places that burn.

We have wrestled in the living room without viewers. Entanglements of words – The living room – A room where you are about to live, but in a struggle with the presence of the other – slowly loosing energy. Entanglements of actions. A female and a male-coded body where no one else is there to watch.

Babies is a collaboration with Artist Sebastian Rudolph Jensen (SWE).The work was first presented as a live performance in 2018 and has since then been performed at Art fairs, festivals, black boxes and Art galleries in Sweden. This video work is an extension and development of the live performance and has not been shown in public.

Artist Statements

My name is Emelié Sterner, currently a BA2 student in Fine Arts at HDK-Valand, Gothenburg (SWE). I move across different artistic areas; from performance to sculpture and installation. From writing to drawing. My work is almost exclusively from a performative perspective. With a background as an actress, I keep coming back to collective practices where interdisciplinary collaborations are central. Through the platform Slip of the Lip that I run together with a dancer we are developing our performances by making crossovers from our own artistic fields – Exploring spatiality, text and choreography.

With a starting point in everyday traumas f.e need for confirmation, relationally related issues (love life, sex, parenthood) I sometimes navigate myself within a more personal sphere, sometimes I turn my gaze to the larger perspectives that could be codified as feminist art practice.

Sebastian Rudolph Jensen is a multi-media artist who works with alter-egos, video, text, sound, painting, sculpture and installation. His art is characterized by humor, absurdity, play and the desire to experiment.   His work takes place on the border between art and life, where the private goes into the artistic and the artistic into the private. Sebastian holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from HDK-Valand.
