This reworked accidental glitch unmasked an unintentional layer to the ‘stay-at-home hun’, a performative personality created to explore desires of escapism, the problematics of the domestic goddess and femininity in confinement. Using her image as a way to access and engage with the outside world becomes compromised through the process of editing. This captures the fragile relationship between women and images and how editing can completely disturb their reality; femininity is then something malleable, manipulated and toyed with.

Artist Statement

Capturing my own experience of girlhood and femininity through video and digital processes currently places my work in domestic, everyday spaces. These spaces and mundane rituals get reimagined and reappropriated by the ‘stay-at-home hun’ who holds a desire for escapism. She attempts to detach from immanent reality by pushing the limits of the everyday while most importantly, looking good while she’s doing it. She see’s creating masquerades through dress as her out which explores the complexities around playing with levels of femininity and women as the image. Contrasting formats, gestures and the over performative nature of fashion photography and film against the messy woman trope shows the chasm between women’s interior voice and expectations of exterior perfection. The ‘stay-at-home hun’ embodies modern femininity, she divorces women from pleasantries and togetherness and allows for more chaos, absurdity and the bizarre.
