Introduction of the Artistic Committee: Heini Aho

29.05.2019

A five-member artistic committee is responsible for the artistic quality and content of the KampusART arts programme. Their task is to prepare the presentations of artworks for the new building and its surroundings to the steering group. In the coming weeks, we will present all the artistic committee members and their thoughts on the arts programme and public art.

Heini Aho (b. 1979) combines elements of sculpture, installation and moving image into works dealing with space and environmental observation issues in her artworks. Aho graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 and from the Turku Arts Academy in 2003.

In recent years, her works have been presented in solo exhibitions such as Cure of All in Turku Art Museum (2018), The Square Elephant Galerie in Anhava in Helsinki (2017), The Primary Force Behind an Everyday Experience at the Titanik Gallery in Turku (2016) and Playing with the Dragon in Forum Box in Helsinki (2015). In 2016, Aho was awarded the William Thuring Foundation’s main prize.

What do you expect for the KampusART arts programme?

When constructing new buildings, its’ future use and users are actively considered. When art is in place in the early stages of a construction project, it can reveal something concrete about the nature of the place. Great artwork helps the visitors to locate where they really are.

What public artwork has impressed you and why?

Lahopuutarha by the artist duo Nabb + Teeri, installed in the garden of Lauttasaari Manor in the new premises of the Kone Foundation, reacts and changes in time. The artwork has a refreshing viewpoint on the relationship between public art and time.
