Open call for alumni from Turku UAS’ Arts Academy: KampusART arts programme on the lookout for media art!
Kupittaa campus offers a new forum for media art. The KampusART media art programme, to be launched in January 2022, will bring alternating works featuring moving images to the media wall at EduCity. In addition, the programme will include screenings.
We are now looking for proposals for works of art to be presented through an open call for works of art for the alumni from Turku UAS’ Arts Academy. The alumni include all those who have graduated from and worked at Turku UAS or the institutions preceding it (incl. Turku Drawing School and Turku School of Art and Communication).
The first KampusART media art programme will be curated by the producers of Video Art Festival Turku (VAFT), Rose Pietola and Jenna Suomalainen. There is no predefined theme for the content in the call for works of art. For VAFT, media art and video art can be all kinds of (audio)visual content implemented in the form of moving image, such as animation, short films or even gifs.
Propose your artwork in the KampusART media art entity!
You can submit a maximum of three (3) works of art. The selected artworks will be shown on the media wall at EduCity and/or in screenings between January 2022 and June 2023.
Media wall
The works of art will be shown during the art slots on the media wall on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11–12. In addition, the artworks can also be shown at other times. The curators will plan the schedule for showing the artworks and the structure of the programme based on the entity.
An artwork shown in a public space cannot have an age limit. The artist can choose the genre and method of implementation. The media wall does not contain audio, which means that the artwork will be shown without sound.
It can be a previously shown artwork or an entirely new artwork.
Technical requirements for the artwork:
- No specific limitation in terms of length
- The artwork must be single channel
- The work of art may contain sound, but it is shown without sound
- File format: h.264 .mp4
- The artwork may contain screen credits, which are included in the total length of the artwork.
Technical information of the media wall:
- Breadth: 6 m
- Height: 3 m
- Picture ratio: 16:9
- Frame rate: 30 fps
The LED media wall is transparent. Colourful contents or those with high contrast work best on the wall. Dark areas and tones are not reproduced in the best way possible on the wall. The media wall does not support interactive content.
Screenings
In addition to the artworks shown on the media wall, a screening or screenings of the selected artworks will be organized on the campus. The works of art in the screenings are shown with sounds.
The curators will plan the times and programme for the screenings. The screenings will be arranged on Turku UAS’ campuses.
