We use photographs as instruments in remembering. We capture landscapes, lights, old trees or the calm sea. We want to remember a landscape passed, a lingering moment and random encounters.

The artwork entity contemplates on the relationship between photographs, looking and remembering. When photographing the outdoor milieu, the skill of finding and looking play an important part. When we look out the window, we observe a landscape we cannot influence. There are similarities between looking out the window and the limitedness of photographs. In both, we look at a cropped area. An area someone else has already predefined. What is shown and what is left out?

The artist walked around Turku for three months and photographed the light. Multiexposed digital photograph has been used. Multiexposure gives room for randomness and ponders on the relationship between the control and uncontrollability of photographs.

The constructed urban environment is mixed with the multiexposed world of photographs. In the photos, the light changes from the sunrise in the morning to the last pastel tones in the evening. What kind of world opens from the window, when the urban city landscape is mixed with the morning sun lingering between the trees?

The temporary artwork will be in place from February 2022 to June 2023.

The artwork is a part of the KampusART’s pedagogic programme.
