The artists of the KampusART Sketch Competition have been published!
TUAS’ Arts Academy and Turku Technology Properties are opening a sketch competition, based on the open call for portfolios, to find ideas for site-specific and permanent public artworks to be produced in the interior of the new campus building Kupittaa.
By the deadline, we received 119 portfolios, of which the artistic jury has invited Stig Baumgartner, Hannu Karjalainen, Shoji Kato, Laura Könönen, Jani Ruscica, Panu Rytkönen, Noora Schroderus and Timo Vaittinen to participate in the sketch competition. The jury includes Head of Education and Research Taina Erävaara (TUAS’ Arts Academy), Communications Director Terhi Marin (Turku Technology Properties) and visual artists Heini Aho, Veli Granö and Jaakko Niemelä.
– The KampusART arts programme clearly interests professional artists. The number of portfolios was high and the level of applicants was very high. Experimenting a new model in collaboration with the Artists’ Association of Finland also brings an interesting perspective to the acquisition of public artwork, says Taina Erävaara, chairperson of the artistic committee.
The Sketch Competition includes architect meetings
The selected artists will create the sketch proposals and can discuss their proposals with Construction Manager, Architect (SAFA) Anniina Savisalo at Turku Technology Properties. The process in question is an experiment with a new way for commissioning public art in cooperation with the the Artists’ Association of Finland.
High-quality and bold art increases the attractiveness of the new campus and constructs the identity of the building and region. The aim is that the artworks take into account humanity and ecological aspects. The results of the competition will be determined by March 2020. The sketch competition has been supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
