The first public artworks have been published in EduCity

The KampusART arts programme is over halfway now. Eight artworks, made by both professional artists and art students, have been published in EduCity. The artists are Anssi Pulkkinen & Taneli Rautiainen, Noora Schroderus, Stig Baumgartner, Shoji Kato, Fanny Varjo & Niina Villanueva, Elina Lahdenperä, Iina Gröhn & Susanna Selin and Jenni Laaksonen & Ottilia Orenius.

Contemporary art and the architecture of EduCity create an interesting visual entity. The starting points of the arts programme, courage and diversity, stand out in the materials and techniques of the artworks as well as the impact of the artworks on the spatial experience.

– As the chairperson of the artistic committee, I am very pleased with the entity so far. The basis for the art commissions has been the vision of the arts programme. The goal is to strengthen interaction and community spirit in Kupittaa Campus. The artworks represent contemporary art in various ways and challenge the concept of public art with temporality and material choices, describes Taina Erävaara, the chairperson of the KampusART artistic committee.

More art coming in 2021

A sustainable and high-quality entity of artworks is emerging on the Kupittaa campus, which will increase pleasantness and take into account the users and functions of the premises. The arts programme will continue until the end of the year 2021. The amount of artworks will be increased next year as well as the concept of public art will be expanded to for example performing arts.

– The KampusART arts programme is one of the most significant public art projects in recent years. The artworks create a new spatial level to the building. Kupittaa campus is a good example of how to apply the Percent for Art principle in construction projects, says Henri Terho, the special advisor in Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
