The Results of the KampusART Invitational Art Competition
The results of the invitational art competition have been published. The aim of the art competition, organized based on the open call for portfolios, was to find ideas for a public artwork produced on the yard deck of the new campus building in Kupittaa. The competition was organized by TUAS and Turku Technology Properties. The jury consisted of the artistic committee of the arts programme, chaired by Taina Erävaara, Head of Education and Research.
Traditional materials and diverse approaches
According to the jury, the proposals included a variety of approaches, and some of them featured the relationship between the artwork and the building’s future use. The materials used in the artworks were traditional outdoor sculpture materials: metal, concrete and stone. All the proposals were feasible, though some would have required further development.
The jury was looking forward to more daring openings and utilization of new technologies. The artists had the opportunity to propose a single artwork or an entity of several works of art for the yard deck, however there were no proposals for artworks consisting of several works. Artists were asked to reflect on the pedagogic possibilities of the artwork process, which appeared to be relatively traditional, such as internships.
All five proposals submitted to the competition met the requirements set out in the competition programme.
1st place is the proposal No. 001 MEANDER (with Bicycle Rack), Anssi Pulkkinen and Taneli Rautiainen
2nd place is the proposal No. 004 Avautuva solmu, Jukka Lehtinen
The jury gave honorable mentions to the following proposals:
nro 002 Vigor Metafaasi, Arja Kärkkäinen
nro 003 Perhosvaikutus, Riikka Puronen
nro 005 Swinggggg!, Anu Suhonen
Turku University of Applied Sciences and Turku Technology Properties are proceeding to develop Anssi Pulkkinen and Taneli Rautiainen’s MEANDER (with Bicycle Rack).
The result of the competition will be announced on Tuesday 14.1.2020. The winning proposals will be displayed on the KampusART Arts Programme website (in Finnish) from 14 to 28 January 2020.
